Innolux surprised all the participants at the developers conference by showing the first display module for Project Ara.
Innolux is the world’s third-largest display panel manufacturer. This Taiwanese company develops advanced technologies such as display with 4K-2K ultra-high resolution, glasses-free 3D Lcd panels, Amoled and touch-control solutions.
Their product lines span the full range of LCD and touch panels, including TV, desktop monitors, notebook computer and medical and automotive panels. Innolux’s employees worldwide number more than 95,000 and their production sites and sales locations span the globe.
The company supplies many of the world’s leading information and consumer electronics manufacturers. For example, Innolux is the company that developed the screen for the Moto 360 circular smartwatch, one of the most innovative panel on the market.
At the conference they showed a first prototype of the Ara display. The company has inserted a 4.5-inch panel, Hd 326 ppi resolution, with Ltps technology (Low Temperature PolySilicon Lcd) into a module. The benefits of Ltps are higher pixel density, lower power consumption and integrating driving circuits on the glass substrate.
The module has an high brightness (600 cd/m2), a narrow border panel (only 1 mm), Gorilla 3 cover-glass (to avoid scratches) and a microphone.
The company plans to produce the first units in the next 16 weeks, to start mass production within 9 months and to fabricate 50000 modules in June.
3D display and E-ink screen modules could be developed by Innolux, according to Fred Van Rens, Innolux product manager.
Sunny Opotech, China’s leading manufacturer of optical products, specialized in cell-phone camera modules participated at the Ara Developer conference. The company has first-class design capability and mass production capacity for integrated products combining optics, mechanics, electronics and software technology. Their specialization are special coating technology in lens production, aspherical optics auto-focus and zooming, 3D scanning and imaging, ultra-high pixel camera modules design and manufacturing. The company produces many types of cameras with 3d sensors and up to 21 Mp.
At Devcon2 Sunny Opotech announced that they are making a 5 Mp camera module, in collaboration with Toshiba. In the future are also planned camera modules of varied technologies such as professional cameras, OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and 360 degree cameras.
