Google isn’t the only company that has developed a modular smartphone. One of the most famous chinese manufacturers, ZTE has shown at the last CES, “Eco-Mobius”.
The smartphone, already announced last year, it has been shown in a mock-up version. The phone is divided into independent sections: LCD, core, and batteries. The LCD module includes the screen and camera; the core section consists of removable modules (CPU, GPU, RAM and ROM). ZTE will develop various models to 4.9, 5.8 and 7.9 inches. Unlike Project Ara modules are smaller and therefore more difficult to produce.
The Eco mobius design isn’t innovative and similar to the current smartphones. The Eco-mobius is now only a mockup, ZTE hasn’t plans to develop it. We can assume that the chinese manufacturer will wait the arrival of the Project Ara on the market to evaluate its production.
